About Cloudoon
Cloudoon is a fast-growing cloud computing company on a mission to power online success for businesses across emerging markets. We offer a comprehensive suite of cloud services — including managed web hosting, CDN, WAF, DNS, VMs, Object Storage, Managed Databases, email hosting, website builders, and no-code tools — all designed to help SMEs, startups, and financial institutions thrive online.
We are a lean, high-impact team that moves fast, ships quality products, and puts our customers first. If you want your work to matter and to help thousands of businesses succeed online, Cloudoon is the place for you.
Role Overview
We are looking for a skilled and passionate WordPress Developer with deep, hands-on expertise in both PHP and native WordPress development to join our engineering team. You are someone who builds from the ground up — writing solid PHP and leveraging core WordPress APIs (hooks, filters, the Loop, custom post types, the WP REST API, and the block editor) rather than relying solely on page builders or third-party plugins. In this role, you will design, build, and maintain WordPress-based websites and web applications for our clients and internal platforms, working closely with designers, cloud engineers, and the product team to deliver performant, secure, and scalable solutions hosted on Cloudoon's infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
• Design and develop Wordpress websites using popular editors such as Elementor, Gutenberg, Wp Bakery etc
• Design, develop, and maintain custom WordPress themes and plugins from scratch to meet product and client requirements.
• Collaborate with the design team to translate UI/UX wireframes into fully functional, pixel-perfect WordPress sites.
• Optimize websites for maximum speed, scalability, and performance
• Create Wordpress SEO friendly pages for Wordpress websites
• Build and integrate REST APIs and third-party services (payment gateways, CRMs, email platforms, etc.) into WordPress projects.
• Manage WordPress deployments, migrations, and updates across staging and production environments on Cloudoon's cloud platform.
• Conduct code reviews, troubleshoot performance bottlenecks, and ensure cross-browser and cross-device compatibility.
• Write clean, maintainable, well-documented code following WordPress coding standards.
• Support clients with technical guidance on WordPress best practices, hosting configurations, and site management.
• Contribute to internal tooling, automation scripts, and improvements to Cloudoon's managed WordPress hosting product.
Required Qualifications
• 1+ years of professional WordPress development experience with a strong emphasis on custom theme and plugin development using native WordPress APIs — not just drag-and-drop builders.
• Deep proficiency in PHP (OOP, design patterns, PSR standards) — you write production-quality PHP, not just WordPress snippets.
• Mastery of native WordPress development: actions/filters hook system, custom post types and taxonomies, meta boxes, settings API, transients API, and the WP_Query object.
• Solid experience building custom Gutenberg blocks using block.json, register_block_type(), and React/JSX.
• Proficiency in HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript (ES6+), and jQuery.
• Experience with page builders and frameworks such as Elementor, Gutenberg, or Divi.
• Solid understanding of MySQL database design, optimization, and query writing.
• Familiarity with RESTful API development and integration within WordPress (WP REST API).
• Experience with version control systems, particularly Git (GitHub/GitLab/Bitbucket).
• Knowledge of web performance optimization techniques (lazy loading, caching, minification, image compression).
• Understanding of WordPress security hardening, common vulnerabilities (XSS, SQL injection), and mitigation strategies.
• Comfortable working in Linux-based server environments (SSH, command line, cron jobs).
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience deploying WordPress on cloud infrastructure (VPS, managed hosting, containers).
• Familiarity with CDN configuration, DNS management, and SSL setup — experience with platforms similar to Cloudoon is a plus.
• Experience with WooCommerce development and e-commerce integrations.
• Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment workflows.
• Exposure to Docker, Nginx, or Apache configuration in a WordPress hosting context.
• Experience with multisite WordPress installations.
• Understanding of SEO best practices and implementing SEO plugins (Yoast, RankMath).
What We Offer
• Access to Cloudoon's full suite of cloud tools and infrastructure for your projects.
• Opportunities for rapid career growth in a scaling tech company.
• A chance to directly impact the digital success of businesses across emerging markets.
• Supportive team culture built on integrity, continuous improvement, and customer obsession.
